Since September 2008 our school has been realizing project, within Lifelong Learning Programme Comenius, entitled: “Let us travel with the “Time-Machine” in our country before and after the E.U". There project will last for two years.
In the project there are 9 member schools from 7 countries:
Greece – coordinator, Germany, Latvia, Portugal, 2 schools from Romania, Turkey and 2 schools from Poland
2 - establish/continue a European dimension in education to our school curriculum
3 - to share and discuss teaching and learning styles, develop knowledge, competence and skills of teachers, specifically in the sphere of intercultural education
4 - improve the organization of the learning process at schools in aspect of intercultural education
5 - improve methods for intercultural education, produce didactic materials
6 - implant intersubject paths of teaching culture
7 - to awaken within our pupils the idea of active citizenship, national traditions and values of our own country and of the wider European Community.
8 - through education and mutual visits provide our pupils with an opportunity to break down barriers and develop tolerance, positive attitudes to people of
different races, cultures, religion,
9 - teach openness and appreciate each other’s views, break stereotypes
10 - activate pupils with special education needs and pupils of risk of social exclusion
11 - to promote sexual and racial equality
12 - to motivate teachers and pupils to learn foreign languages
Subjects or problems we intend to address
a) In order to facilitate the inclusion of SEN pupils we intend to explore and analyse their specific needs and consequently provide them with differentiate teaching and
learning resources, so that SEN pupils engaged in this programme can access to any aspect of the programme through adequate answers to their needs.
Furthermore we are going to plan some activities addressed to SEN pupils’ parents especially in case of students with a low esteem of themselves, or suffering from
any form of apprehension.
b) Cooperation between women /men and boys/ girls is based on partnerships and equal rights. Each partner has an equal voice in all proposals and in final
decision making
c) Our topic is fully devoted to intercultural education. We have assembled a large group of teachers from different foreign schools to analyze and discuss
integration strategies for students with multicultural backgrounds, exchange experiences of intercultural mediation and problem solving, conflict resolution
and violence at schools based on religious and social background, help to combat racism and xenophobia.
d) Paying particular attention to those students who may have difficult family situations. We provide psychological help, support from the teaching and
learning programmes, create new forms of extra- curricular opportunities in the Socrates project. Funding from the programme will enable us to involve children
from economically disadvantaged families in the project.
e) Our project deliberately allows for the inclusion of all interested or identified staff and students irrespective of physical disability. Disabled students and staff will
take part to the whole project from the preparation of materials to the organisation of particular events celebrated at schools. Visits to Heritage Sites have already
been researched to ensure that all staff and students can participate.
f) The very subject nature of the proposed project invites partner schools to actively encourage the participation of those students within their institutions identified as
in a minority group. The focus in this circumstance is once more to be inclusive and to celebrate the contribution made to European society by all individuals or
groups. We recognise that encouragement needs to be intelligently and sensitively secured.
Our approach to achieving our objectives We have been working on the project for over 1 year. The project is living its own life. Thanks to the marvels of ICT the head teachers and teacher- coordinators involved are in regular contact with each other. Point by point we discuss and
analyze the application form, exchange opinions, and points of view. Schools that have already worked on the Comenius project share experiences with
new ones. Every partner has an equal voice in all final decisions. The topic chosen is: “Let us travel with the “Time-Machine” in our country before and after the E.U." . This
subject matter has evolved from the declared needs and interests of the participating schools.
The basic form of contact is by email, skype and sometimes by phone or fax. All tasks will be shared by the schools and the dates of realization are agreed in our
joint calendars.
Necessity to be in a permanent contact and quick exchange of information forces to use modern ICT. Every day teachers have to use Internet, e-mails, prepare
documents, materials including photos, charts, diagrams etc… Using modern ICT becomes a habit, everyday custom.
Fax and phone will be used to maintain direct contact between the partners. Video cameras - presenting the events from the project Computers to make editorials works.
